The whole database is now integrated into google maps which includes geo data longitude and latitude and the name of the recording artist. You can travel around the world and listen to the sounds. As you visit each city all the sounds appear. Each time you visit this page it takes you to a random city. In addition street view and panoramas have been built in. Enjoy. HERD ABOVE THE NOISE: INSTALLATION.There are 170 speakers in the installation version with a new custom software system. It requires a large floor for it to go on. This size can vary the minimum size could be 20ft by 20 ft to 60 ft by 50 ft. The installation plays thousands of sounds from around the world and is arranged like an entangled map of the city the artwork is installed in. What you see and experience is a map of wires and cables and speakers including over 170 speakers, custom made amplifiers and cables that are all used to make the installation. The aim is to create an online aural experience that evokes place, both as literal description but also developed musical composition. HERD ABOVE THE NOISE: INTERFACE These soundmaps allow you to mix up sounds in a series of online maps. This is a new version . These black an white maps have an autoplay system that navigates the global playing sounds. PERFORMANCE: SOUNDCITIES During the soundcities performance Stanza operates the soundcities applications and soundmaps on three laptops these generate sound control data and image data .This is basically a live world tour of city sounds as music. Performances are focused on the sounds of cities, the database live and soundmaps. Selected performances have included: The Arts Depot in North London, DorkBot in Ghent Belgium, The Samsung Media Centre Korea, The DANA Centre London for Cybersonic , Delux in London, open-digi Brixton, Test Portal Holland, Digifest inToronto, The Museo Tamayo in Mexico City, Gogbot, Tec Rotterdam. Performance time: one hour. WORKSHOP: SOUNDCITIES Workshop with the soundcities project. The workshop investigates field recording, collecting sounds, editing sounds, and finally they put them in the database and on soundmaps on the soundcities.com site. The group creates these soundmaps in the city by recording sounds using portable devices. The aim is to learn about field recording and using sound for creative uses, ie concerts, installations and enhanced experience of our surroundings. SOUNDCITIES CD Musical compositions using the soundcities database by Stanza 2003 made and released as MP3 download release. Stanza reworked all the found sounds into finished musical composition from each world city and were arranged as finished compositions into nearly 70 mins of music that forms the basis of a 'world tour' Working with Pelado on the sounds. XML Access. This area was developed in 2004 to allow access to the assets on the database and to share the data.
